History of the Hillside Catholic Academy

Hillside Catholic Academy opened its doors on July 1, 2004. The school was formed by the merging of Christ the King School in Hillside and St. Catherine’s of Sienna School in Elizabeth. Mr. Michael J. Butchko was named Principal of Hillside Catholic Academy in April of 2004.

Hillside Catholic Academy is a co-educational Catholic elementary school.  The school is comprised of Grades Pre-Kindergarten to 8.  Grades Pre-K, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are self-contained classrooms.
Students are eligible for Pre-Kindergarten who reached the age of 3 or 4 by October 1
Students are eligible for Kindergarten who reach the age of 5 by October 1.

Mission Statement of Beliefs;

• The message of the Gospel must be put into action within our school and throughout our community.
• As educators, we are responsible for serving as models of faith in action, so that our students may follow our example.
• We help to shape well-rounded individuals who are strong in knowledge, morals and faith.
• We help to shape well-rounded students spiritually, academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.
• Education is a constant process that does not begin or end in the school building.
• A person’s education is not judged by how much knowledge is acquired in academic subjects alone.
• Our job as educators is to support and reinforce the lessons students learn at home.
• What our students learn at Hillside Catholic Academy will provide a strong foundation for their futures.
• Because of what our students learn at Hillside Catholic Academy they will be well-equipped to deal with life’s challenges.
• Our students will achieve success because of the education they receive at Hillside Catholic Academy.
